How can you tell if someone is taking steroids?
Jul 10 2020
Let's start with the obvious: it's easy to determine if someone is using steroids successfully.
The clearest difference between users and non-users. Steroids predominantly increase the size of the muscles that attach to the shoulder joints: latissimus, trapezius, pectoralis, deltoid muscles and shoulders. (Interestingly, here the steroid acne most often appears.)
A guy who is "furious" with traps big enough to support his own ecosystems had almost certainly received pharmaceutical help.
Also the easiest challenge: if you see someone who is extremely skinny but significantly larger than the champions before bodybuilding before the steroid era, he probably takes drugs that these guys did not have.
Another says: someone looks like a bodybuilder ready for the competition or a cover model for several months in a row, without gaining fat and without losing muscle. But even this is not a perfect sign. Perhaps the guy is just a genetic freak.
However, there is one tricky way to find out if a guy was on steroids in the past or is now: talk to him about steroids. The average anabolic steroid knows almost everything about androgens.
Faster than usual progress is also an obvious indicator. After about three years of lifting, the ability to build muscle drops significantly. If someone says he has gained 25 pounds of muscle per year, they are either new to lifting or using steroids.
Thus, if you want to build a physique that is only possible with steroids, you probably need more than steroids.
